The Institute of geological sciences of Armenian National Academy of sciences (IGS) was established in 1935 and since then is leading institute in geology and Earth sciences in Armenia. Organizational structure of IGS includes ten research laboratories covering different geological disciplines and geological museum. Geological science is an important component of the country's economy, which provides the requirements of the state and society for the study and evaluation of the geology of the territory of the Republic of Armenia, the study and assessment of geological hazards, the study of the possibilities of expanding the mineral base of the country, as well as geothermal energy, water resources, engineering geology and geological tourism, monitoring and in the fields of conservation of geological heritage. In geological studies, the Institute's has active bilateral international collaboration with France, Germany, Great Britain, Iran, Italy, Russia, Taiwan, UK, USA, expressed by joint research with the leading scientific centers of and the organization of representative scientific conferences in Armenia.
Presentation will briefly touch upon the structure of IGS and current research projects with more focus on research covering natural resources.
